Unanimously approved by Council in the summer of 2008 after many months of research and public consultation, the new brand is providing an exceptional opportunity for Elgin County to focus its marketing efforts on key sectors and become known as a county that is “Progressive by Nature.”

That’s the new motto proudly displayed on Elgin County’s redesigned Web site, www.progressivebynature.com. It summarizes the strategy that is raising the profile of the County among site selectors and investors with the goal of attracting new businesses, particularly in four sectors: energy and environment, agribusiness, manufacturing and tourism.

The Web site offers many pages of practical information, resources and statistics to attract people in business and economic development sectors around the world. The site is visually inviting and welcoming, while incorporating interactive features such as maps and a business directory.

The Web site’s colour scheme of green, blue and yellow reflects Elgin County’s environmental attributes. Particularly striking is the county’s new logo, which incorporates these colours and attributes and adds a sense of power and vibrancy. It easily stands out from the crowd, just like the County itself.

“Our branding elements will help give a clear direction as we carry out Elgin County’s five-year economic development plan,” says Alan Smith, Deputy Director of Community and Cultural Services. “We are collaborating with key stakeholders to achieve the goals established in the plan.

“The new brand will help both the County and its business groups to develop more pride within the community, increase business investment, attract young families, create jobs and increase tourism.”

The brand was created through stakeholder sessions, where key phrases capturing Elgin County’s assets were developed. The sessions brought to life the following branding statement:

“Elgin County is welcoming, progressive and naturally breath-taking. A powerful entrepreneurial spirit drives our innovative businesses to excel and compete nationally and globally. Our residents share a passion for active lifestyles and are proud of their friendly, vibrant communities.”

The motto “Progressive by Nature” summarizes this branding statement and incorporates the elements of entrepreneurship, pioneering perseverance and innovation, all major assets within Elgin County.

The new brand has been displayed and incorporated into all marketing and promotional items, from a new trade-show booth to golf shirts. With this strong, powerful and bold brand, Elgin County will be easily identifiable as a unique place for economic growth and advancement.
